Swedish Massage
Long strokes, kneading and friction techniques are applied to superficial muscles and tendons in combination with passive and active movements of joints. Generally, this type of massage is gentle and relaxing, and lays the foundation for most other techniques.

Myofacial Release
This technique seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the fascia (tissue that encapsulates the muscle). Long stretching strokes are used to release muscular and facial tension.

Trigger Point Therapy/ Neuromuscular Therapy
Trigger points are hypersensitive or irritated, tender areas in muscle that are often related to referred pain. This technique involves the movement of myofacial tissue through soft, deep contact with pressure points on the body. The therapist applies steady, moderate pressure for several seconds to "erase" a trigger point and break cycles of pain. Knowledge of common trigger point locations and referral patterns help the therapist determine if trigger point work is called for.

Deep Tissue
The focus of this treatment is on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It is primarily used to release chronic patterns of tension in the body through a series of slow, deep strokes and strong, deep pressure on contracted areas either with or across the grain of muscle, tendons and fascia.

Active Release (ART)
This is a very specific and detailed treatment for injured and overused muscles. ART combines the evaluation of the texture, tightness and movement of soft tissue with treatment that includes precisely directed tension to scar tissue and adhesions or 'knots' with very specific movements. These movements take the tissue from a shortened position to a fully lengthened position while the pressure passes in the same direction of the muscle fibers. Although soreness is a symptom a few hours following this treatment, so are looser and more flexible muscles.

Sport Specific Massage
Each sport tends to strain the muscles at certain predictable points. Sports massage can help heal strained muscle and allow healthy ones to reach peak action and to maintain it with less risk of injury. Multiple techniques are used based on the individual's needs.

Prenatal Massage
Whether you are two or nine months along in your pregnancy, our therapists can design a treatment to meet your specific prenatal needs, starting with a comfortable space to lie down for the duration of your massage. A necessity for expecting moms.
